For one assignment I was required to write a research report in response to a brief. This meant conducting research and then analysing it for the Infrastructure and Development team. Playground Upgrades for Yardley Park and Barnes ParkSummary: The purpose of this report was to ascertain the main problems with the existing playground equipment at Yardley Park and Barnes Park and devise possible solutions to these problems. This required the use of both quantitative and qualitative research methods to gather data and gain a deeper understanding of what type of playground the community wants. The main statement deduced from this research is that the community needs a safe and appealing environment for parents to bring their children, as well as a place that the children of the community will want to make use of. This may result in the installation of new, regulation-approved equipment, regular checks for safety hazards, and further research on additional equipment to enhance the Council playgrounds at a later date. Reasons for Research: The aim of this research is to find out:
Results: The survey produced a good response rate, with 15 of the 20 people having submitted their answers. Appendixes 1 and 2 highlight the most essential responses of each individual to the project (Appendix 1 allowed multiple answers, while Appendix 2 was a single answer question). Also, interviews were conducted with two anonymous individuals, both parents who filed complaints to the Council regarding safety hazards. Each respondent was asked for their ideas for new playground equipment and what their opinions were on preventing further safety breaches in future.
Conclusions: From the results of this research, it can be concluded that the community is in most need of a safe environment where children will want to spend their time and where parents can feel secure in knowing that their children will be using quality, engaging and above all sound regulation equipment in accordance with the Australian Standards for Playgrounds. Recommendations: Suitable changes/solutions may include:
